‘iZombie’ season 2, ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ score additional episodes from The CW
Both “iZombie” and “Crazy Ex Girlfriend” have something extra to be thankful for moving into this holiday weekend coming up: More episodes for the remainder of the season!
First, let’s start with the Rose McIver series, which is now getting in total 19 episodes for its second season. Its ratings are okay by CW standards, and the bigger problem here is the lead-in. The show is losing consistently at least half, if not more, of the numbers that “The Flash” is pulling in before it. We wonder already if a move to a new night is on the horizon, since we think that The CW can and probably will be able to make more use of that timeslot.
As for “Crazy Ex Girlfriend,” Rachel Bloom and company are going to be sticking around for 18 episodes in full now after the network ordered five more installments. We think that this show is funny and innovative, but ratings really are a concern here. It and “Reign” are the low shows on the power rankings, and at least the latter has somewhat of an excuse in that it airs on Friday nights.
As for the two shows’ future on the network moving forward, we’re not convinced that the extra episodes is anything other than a way to fill time for now. “Crazy Ex Girlfriend” has to hope for some awards buzz or extra attention, while “iZombie” may need to prove that it can draw similar numbers on other nights and that it is not just dependent on “The Flash.” If it does that, we’ll increase its odds ever so slightly. The CW also has other shows to think about moving forward, including “Containment,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” and “The 100” season 3.
