American Music Awards 2016: One Direction, The Weeknd, Luke Bryan among winners
The 2016 American Music Awards are upon us, and this means everything from performances to controversy about such performances to winners to controversy about such winners. Yes, that was indeed a mouthful to say.
What we’ve got for you below in this article is the quick list of winners, which will be updated as the night goes on and more and more people walk away with trophies. Given that this show is mostly about entertainment, don’t be too shocked if there are a few names here who, for the most part, are left on the cutting-room floor.
Favorite R&B Album – The Weeknd, “Beauty Behind the Madness”
Favorite Duo or Group – One Direction
Favorite Male Artist, Country – Luke Bryan
Favorite Soundtrack – “Pitch Perfect 2”
Favorite Hip-Hop Album – Nicki Minaj, “The Pinkprint”
Pop / Rock Female – Ariana Grande
New Artist – Sam Hunt
Country Female – Carrie Underwood
Rap Album – Nicki Minaj
Favorite Alternative Artist – Fall Out Boy
Favorite Artist, Rap – Nicki Minaj
Artist of the Year – One Direction
Once again, many of the winners were the people fittingly in attendance. Sure, you can have your conspiracy theories about this if you like, but we think that it’s more that following the public vote, the show figures out the awards they want to present on the show, and they also try to find a way to get as many people there as possible. Given the One Direction fandom, it’s really not that much of a stretch to see them winning the top award.
