‘Gotham’ season 2 spoilers: More on the Order of St. Dumas

Gotham -At the end of Monday night’s new episode of “Gotham,” we had a super-quick teaser for the Order of St. Duman. This is a very powerful group who should be familiar to DC Comics fans, and in one way or another, their story may be linked in some way to that of Theo Galavan.

Monday night’s new episode, per TVLine, will help to provide more backstory into where Galavan came from, and in the backdrop of this the Order will rise. Speaking to the site, executive producer John Stephens had the following to say about how they will play this story out versus the source material:

“It’s not completely dissimilar [from the comics] … It’s an old order of monks who for the past 500 years have been anointing a sort of ‘champion’ – Azrael — a vigilante assassin who goes out and purges the world of sin. So we’ll be telling that story this season.”

Could we be transitioning from Galavan to Azrael as the Big Bad for the season, or is something else in the works? It’s hard to say, but one thing that “Gotham” has done a pretty good job at so far this season is knowing when they are past the point of no return with certain characters. For example, it was clear in “The Last Laugh” that there was no way that Joker could realistically move forward causing chaos in that world. therefore, the time was right to dispatch of him. The same was true recently for Barbara Kean, even though we do know that this particular story is far from over.

If nothing else if Galavan does go the way of the dodo soon, we know that we’ll be following him up with something equally interesting and possibly connected to him in some way.
