ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8, episode 8 (fall finale) review: Are Castle, Beckett back together?
Throughout the past month or so, one episode of “Castle” has completely dominated the news cycle with questions regarding whether or not it will be one to change things for the Castle – Beckett relationship. These two characters split up earlier in the season much to the chagrin of fans, and we long looked at the “Mr. & Mrs. Castle” as the one glimmer of hope that things were eventually going to turn around.
After watching the episode, we are very pleased to report that this is precisely what has happened. Your favorites are now back together again! As for whether or not this happened in a way in which it was expected, that’s somewhat of a different story. It took Rick having to hack into Beckett and Vikram’s database with the help of Hayley to get her to realize that there is no way she can keep her search from him. Eventually, what we ended up seeing was her relenting, and eventually realizing that the two are in fact much better as a team.
So the great news is that Caskett as a couple is back on! The bad news? They still have not figured out everything in regards to LokSat and who is behind the entire operation. We did make some progress tonight in learning more about it as an international operation. This is how it was connected into what looked at first to be a Case of the Week: A murder aboard a cruise ship that was actually a woman making a documentary about some of the terrible stuff going on behind the scenes.
As for a few other odds and ends from the hour…
-Didn’t Vikram come off like kind of a jerk at times when talking about Castle? We understand that this is dangerous, but dude, you gotta let Beckett make decisions for herself.
-Castle dancing while undercover aboard the ship may be one of our new favorite scenes.
-The man at the center of all of this is a public defender who is really using that job to puppetmaster and control how much information gets out there. This is going to be a marathon rather than a sprint trying to stop him.
Overall, we feel like “Mr. & Mrs. Castle” was a satisfying conclusion to the first run this season. You can understandably question whether or not the separation ever needed to happen to begin with, but at least this story brought us some fun moments and what many fans ultimately wanted to see. Grade: B+.

I liked the episode overall, but the firewall hacking scene had me groaning at the simple stupidity of it. I know hacking computer systems is not exciting and the writers need to spice it up, but making it completely illogical in the process? We are in the middle of hacking through their firewalls, but look, we can still make their computer spew up cat videos etc. etc.

Social media all over knows the VikRam is the LokSat guy and that he is in love with Beckett. Now that most everyone knows this could we dump him and get back to what people want to see, Fillion and Katic working together in the same frame for more than 10 minutes an episode?

This episode was positively a giant step in the right direction. The quality of the dialog still has a long way to go. It certainly seems that Vikram remains a major liability. Caskett working together on the ship was back to perfect form. When allowed to by the writer, (Christine Roum is certainly more sophisticated than this drivel) our star couple rapidly reverted to great form. The scene breaking the firewalls was really exciting TV. As seems to be a pattern this year, the finale was less… This how many times that Castle has forgiven and forgotten??. It was too easy. There is no indication that Kate has learned about marriage or commitment and no indication that she will not make the same mistakes again. The lying, the deception and the total lack of trust in the pure goodness of Castle go passed her head.
