‘How to Get Away with Murder’ winter finale reaction: Alfred Enoch on Annalise twist
At the end of the “How to Get Away with Murder” winter finale on Thursday night, there was a stunning event really like no other the show has given us so far: The shooting of Annalise Keating by Wes. Did she ask for him to shoot her? Yes, but not in the way in which it actually happened. After learning that she was well aware of the death of Rebecca, he took revenge by firing a bullet into her abdomen. While we assume she will survive, it is far to say that this changes everything when it comes to these two characters. That is even more so when you consider that Annalise uttered his real name Christoph, proof that she is aware of his past and what happened to him so many years ago.
In speaking about how the dynamic between these two characters could change in the final six episodes this season, Alfred Enoch (who plays the character) stated the following to Variety:
“There’s an intimacy between them, which complicates the issue with him shooting her and trying to kill her, which obviously is why the betrayal feels so stark and so painful. It’s a very complicated relationship because to some degree, he knows he can’t trust her, but I don’t think he would have ever suspected that — even though he’s been suspecting her throughout all the season.”
To us, the obvious point of tension is going to be learning whether or not there is a way for these two characters to ever coexist again. What in the world is going to stop Wes from trying this again? This is at least something that has to be considered.
