‘Blue Bloods’ season 6, episode 9 review: Did Frank stay on as commissioner?
“Blue Bloods” has a real knack for shifting gears from one episode to the next, which is why after a pretty intense, action-packed hour last week, this was more of a slower, character-based story geared more towards Erin trying to uncover the truth in a convoluted case, and also Frank Reagan making a decision on his future as commissioner.
The good news is that Frank determined that in the end, he would stick around indefinitely, mostly so that he could continue to assist following the Mayoral election. Here is what we found particularly interesting about this decision: This does not equate to a guarantee that he will be around forever, and it almost gives the show free reign to just have him resign the moment that the show eventually ends. There is no time limit on it, but we don’t see him leaving that post until a series finale. He’s too valuable to what the writers and producers do.
Meanwhile, Erin’s story was important in continuing to get to the bottom of a case that had a variety of implications, whether it be cover-ups and juror behavior that was questioned as irregular. We’re not going to say that this had the same intensity to is as Danny hunting down the serial killer last week, but we think that these stories are important to Erin improving her resume in the long-term. We like to view her story as one where she is building towards an important judgeship, but she needs to earn her stripes in the process.
Other than Frank’s decision to stay on, we cannot proclaim this to be the most memorable episode of “Blue Bloods” ever. Yet, it did still accomplish the goal of being entertaining, and providing us with a worthy Friday-night TV distraction. Grade: B.
