‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5 spoilers: Jennifer Morrison teases different side of Captain Hook

Hook -

Over the past several seasons on “Once Upon a Time,” we’ve had what we would say is the fun opportunity to watch a transition play out with Captain Hook, one that started with him as this sort of malevolent pirate and ended until recently with him fighting more for the good guys. He made his feelings for Emma Swan clear, and acted as though he wanted to do almost anything in his power for her.

So what has changed? It’s really so simple as the fact that he now knows that the Darkness has consumed him, and in many ways he is now the Dark One in the same exact way that Emma is. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, this presence is going to change the man otherwise known as Killian Jones back into a former side of himself, one that is not thought of as nearly so kind or caring to others:

“As soon as the Darkness is within him again, he goes straight back to his vengeful pirate-y self, pre-Emma Hook, basically … He’s operating from the Darkness, instead of the goodness that he’s fought for for so many hundreds of years. In the immediacy of it, he’s very resentful, but he’s operating out of that Darkness that’s within him.”

Before you make it to the end of the first half of this season, we imagine that we will learn more about if there is a way to extract the Dark One from both him and Emma. Yet, this question remains: Is the Dark One innately bad, or is part of it psychological? We wonder only because Killian seemed more than fine until he learned the truth about what lied within him.
