‘Doctor Who’ season 9 spoilers: Official details on final episodes ‘Heaven Sent,’ ‘Hell Bent’

Doctor WhoWe feel it necessary in this case to kick off this “Doctor Who” article with a substantial spoiler warning: If you do not want to feel as though you are getting the story ruined for you, stop reading now. There are not MAJOR spoilers in here, but it is heavy speculation nonetheless.

Still with us? Well, then take a gander at the official details that the BBC has released regarding the final two episodes entitled “Heaven Sent” and “Hell Bent.” Without any further context, let’s just go ahead and present them:

“Heaven Sent” – “Trapped in a world unlike any other he has seen, the Doctor faces the greatest challenge of his many lives. One final test. And he must face it alone. Pursued by the fearsome creature known only as the Veil, he must attempt the impossible. If he makes it through, Gallifrey is waiting…”

“Hell Bent” – “If you took everything from him, betrayed him, trapped him, and broke both his hearts…how far might the Doctor go? Returning to Gallifrey, the Doctor faces the Time Lords in a struggle that will take him to the end of time itself. Who is the Hybrid? And what is the Doctor’s confession?”

The obvious thing to note here is the clear absence of Clara Oswald, which does yield to some theories that “Face the Raven” this coming weekend will serve as her final installment of the series. We cannot necessarily speak to the truth of that; while the promos certainly suggest that it will be so, don’t you also think that we should consider the possibility that she makes a surprise appearance later if The Doctor needs her? We’re not ruling it out.
