NBC’s ‘The Voice’ season 9 has a terrifying elimination schedule ahead

VoiceGoing into Tuesday night’s new episode of “The Voice,” we were shocked to learn that just one contestant was going to be eliminated at the end of the show. We were at first somewhat happy about this said news, at least until we realized that we are basically being set up for the show’s version of the Red Wedding a little bit later in the season.

According to TVLine, the show is going to continue to eliminate one contestant per week until we are down to the top nine on December 7, when on the following day, a whopping five people will be eliminated before the finale. This is terrible, and for so many reasons … with the biggest one being that if you have a bad week, all of a sudden you are sent home. Meanwhile, someone who may have had one good week or song choice at the right time is suddenly still in the finals.

“The Voice” has had problems for years now when it comes to figuring out the right way to handle structurally what they are doing with results shows. They only have so many live shows, and with that they end up getting rid of people before they really should. As a result of that, what we have is a situation where you don’t really know any of the contestants that well during the season, mostly because there are so many of them that enter this stage and you eliminate people so quickly.

We like to be solutions-oriented rather than just coming on here to complain. Therefore, may we propose the following for the show moving forward. Bring far fewer people to the live shows in 12, and then narrow that down to eight after the Live Playoffs. from there, you can give so much more time to all of the remaining contestants, you eliminate fewer of them before the finale, and at least some of these people will be memorable as a result.
