‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 9 spoilers: Big story coming for Sheldon, Amy

One of the things that “The Big Bang Theory” prides itself on is being a show that is taped in front of a live audience. with that in mind, they are not going to change up their M.O. just for the sake of hiding a secret. (Warning: There are MAJOR spoilers ahead.)

The producers of the show knew that it would be leaked from taping their December 17 episode last night that Sheldon and Amy will have consummated their long-standing, on-again, off-again relationship, so they just went ahead and beat people to the punch. In a statement, showrunner Steve Molaro said the following:

“After over five years of dating, we felt the time was right for Sheldon and Amy to finally consummate their relationship, and we’re so excited for the audience to see the journey over the next several episodes.”

Obviously, the implication here is that Sheldon and Amy will be getting back together before that time … or at least doing something to make us think they are heading in that direction. Is that the right move for the show to make? We’re not entirely sure just yet, given that Sheldon still has not really apologized at all for some of his horrendous behavior towards her. The engagement ring of commitment is nice, but the problem is that this commitment would then come with him still not paying attention to her or respecting her.

Who knows? Maybe the two sleeping together is Sheldon trying to give her more of what she needs, while making sure that he is comfortable in the process. This is all going to depend on the moment and the writing, and we don’t want to cheer or dismiss it yet.
