‘Fresh Off the Boat,’ ‘black-ish,’ ‘The Middle,’ ‘The Goldbergs’ get more episodes
For everyone out there who loves a few certain shows on ABC, we come bearing some big news: You’re going to get a chance to see more of them!
Today, ABC confirmed that “Fresh Off the Boat,” “The Middle,” “black-ish,” and “The Goldbergs” have all been given an extended episode order from ABC. How extended are we talking about here? Let’s just say that as a whole, each show will now have 24 episodes as opposed to 22. This is tacking on to the back nine order that “Fresh Off the Boat” recently received.
Deadline reports that ABC is likely to order a pair of additional episodes for “Modern Family” as well, but that has not been confirmed just yet.
The reason for these extra episodes is fairly simple, and it ties into just how successful many of the network’s comedy series are. They have figured out how to appeal to families in a way that other networks have not. It has become more and more challenging to get people interested in a genre on the decline; ultimately, we feel like one of the reasons why they are able to do it here is because they put a slight twist on the family sitcom concept, add some popular talent, and then top it off with a little bit of diversity with some of their shows. This is a formula that has also worked for “Dr. Ken,” which got a full-season order but seems to be sticking around at 22 for the time being. We’ll see if that changes.
