‘Saturday Night Live’ music: Disclosure performs ‘Magnets’ with Lorde
Going into this weekend, “Saturday Night Live” made a fairly interesting choice when it comes to its musical guests: It announced the special surprise guests before the show even aired! Both Lorde and Sam Smith were joining Disclosure for a pair of songs. This made sense, mostly because the duo features artists in many of their songs as they are for the most part an electronic act that lets their guests do some of the vocal heavy lifting.
Admittedly, we do not know that much about the pair, but the first song that we heard was “Magnets,” which featured the “Royals” singer front and center. It was a driving, strong vocal for the most part, and the backing track was something to keep us interested at a time when we often are not. There are many times during the show at this point where we feel like we are just ready to get back to the comedy, and thankfully this didn’t happen.
The second performance came later with Sam Smith, and it was to a very enjoyable song called “Omen.” What many may not know is that the song “Latch” is also a collaboration between Smith and the duo, and that is a song that many people have heard in one form or another. This is turning out to be a banner year for Smith, given that he has already performed the theme song for the new James Bond film “Spectre,” and likely will have a new album come out at some point in the next year or two. His debut ended up being a smash hit.
