‘Wicked City’ canceled by ABC after three episodes

It could happen -

The run of “Wicked City” on ABC turned out to be wicked short.

After airing just three episodes (which scored fairly miserable ratings in the process), the network has pulled the plug on the Ed Westwick period piece. This past episode drew numbers that were more or less the equivalent of a bad CW show, so it is no surprise. With that being said, this is just the latest in a long line of ABC series that have been canceled in the 10:00 p.m. Eastern timeslot on Tuesday night. For whatever reason, the network just cannot make this work.

What is interesting about this particular headline is that “Wicked City” is the first show to actually be pulled from the schedule this season, which is clearly a headline that networks have been wanting to avoid. They just did not have a choice here, since there would have been more than a half-dozen episodes that they still would have had to air, and there is no way that they can justify this to some of their affiliates.

There is no word yet as to what the network will use this timeslot for, but we know that there are some episodes of “Beyond the Tank” that are waiting to air. They were originally going to air earlier in the fall, but were held back in order to give some more opportunities for “Quantico” to shine in repeats. Clearly, they know that this is the sort of show that can be plugged in almost anywhere without too much effort.
