‘How to Get Away with Murder’ season 2, episode 8 review: Is Caleb or Catherine actually a murderer?
We are just about at the end of “How to Get Away with Murder” this fall, and maybe if this was another show, the story would start to wind down. However, in the case of this show, it is really spiraling out of control.
The good news, at least on the surface, was that Annalise Keating finally had the case of Caleb and Catherine out of the way. She managed, with the help of Frank (finally), to get the DNA evidence that she needed to get Philip arrested as the primary suspect. Given that he was the child of incest and thought of as an outsider, it was really easy to get even ADA Sinclair to bite on this. After a lot of back-and-forth, and Catherine and Caleb trying to fall on the sword for each other, there was peace and a lot of people doing the deed! We had Connor and Oliver, Frank and Laurel, Michaela and Caleb, and even Annalise and Nate getting close to each other yet!
Yet, it was the one person alone in Wes who started to figure out, thanks to one of Catherine’s paintings, that she knew Philip in a way that was not clear to anyone else, and that maybe letting her off the hook was not so great of an idea.
The rest of the episode mostly did a good job of setting up the big winter finale next week, where we will learn who shot Annalise once and for all. We now have connected at least some of the dots like Michaela and Caleb, but we still don’t have a lot of connective tissue for why both Sinclair and Keating would be targeted. That’s a mystery for next week, we presume. Grade: B.
