‘Downton Abbey’ season 6 Christmas Special: Hugh Bonneville hints at story ahead
The sixth season of “Downton Abbey” may have formally come to a close already, but there is a Christmas Special still on its way that will serve more as the proper series finale. In this story, hopefully we will see all loose ends tied up, and some sort of happiness for the majority of the characters.
Here’s the bad news: We cannot guarantee in full right now that every character is going to have said ending. As a matter of fact, one of the show’s stars is not promising anything. Speaking in a new chat on “This Morning,” Hugh Bonneville made it very clear that not every character may get the exact ending they so seek:
“Let’s not forget that her nickname is ‘poor Edith’ – but we’ll just have to wait and see … It’s really the continuation of the story, so what people saw on Sunday isn’t by any means the end.”
We should make it clear here that it is very possible that Bonneville is just trolling all of us by making it seem as though Lady Edith could actually be in some sort of serious danger of having her happiness stripped from her, when in reality she is not. Given that she ended season 6 in not the best place after Mary blew up her secret about Marigold, isn’t there nowhere else to go but up? We do think that this show fancies itself as somewhat idealistic when the chips are down. Their major deaths happened just because Jessica Brown Findlay and Dan Stevens wanted to depart the series, and we don’t think Julian Fellowes has any intent on making people sob this Christmas.
