‘Arrow’ season 4, episode 6 review: Is Ray Palmer back in one piece?

Arrow -Last week’s “Arrow” episode was awesome. The same can be said for “The Flash” a little earlier this week. Therefore, the expectations were astronomical moving into “Lost Souls” on Wednesday night. This was an episode that, at least for the most part, brought a lot of action to the table. However, was it anywhere near as good as some of the ones that came before it? We’d argue that it mostly just suffers from poor placement more than anything else.

You see, much of this episode had to be plot-based. On in order to make it to the crossover episode in a few weeks for DC’s “Legends of Tomorrow,” Ray Palmer had to make it through his torment at the hands of Damien Darhk alive. Also, he had to find a way to get back to his original size after being trapped in tiny bite-sized form. The mission to save him was fun, albeit somewhat predictable. We knew that he would survive and get back to his normal size, so what drama was there?

After his rescue, Ray decided to stay presumed dead for the time being, and in the meantime Felicity had a chance to work through some issues that she had with Oliver. She held so much guilt over not coming to Ray’s rescue sooner that she pushed him away, and in turn he wondered whether or not she wanted to be with someone a little more on the brilliant side when it comes to technology. Inviting Donna Smoak to town did not help, even if it was fun.

As for the other highlights of the night, Sara Lance decided to leave Star City in order to have a proper second chance at life, but only after feeling the same urge to kill that Thea has at times this season. Her acting on it was the last straw. Also, Donna and Quentin met! The dreams of many a ‘shipper have started to come true. Speaking of romance, Thea agreed to go on a date with Alex.

As for the flashback story … well, it’s boring again with Constantine not around. This episode was solid entertainment, but we’re not sure how much of it we’ll be remembering. Grade: B-.
