‘Supernatural’ season 11 spoilers: Jensen Ackles on tie between Dean, the Darkness

What does Dean have to do with the Darkness? It’s a good question on “Supernatural” season 11 at the moment, but not exactly something that anyone has a clear-cut answer to just yet. Maybe there is some time to his demon past / the Mark of Cain that has not become clear yet, or maybe there is just something coincidental / biological that pushes him closer to the force. This is a show that occasionally does like to float a big mystery out there without much information on what it means, and this specifically is a case of them doing that.

Even Jensen Ackles is not 100% sure right now as to what is going on between his character and whatever hold the Darkness is having on him. Just take a look at what he had to say on the subject to Entertainment Weekly:

“Obviously there is some odd connection … Opportunities are going to present themselves to Dean and this is where we see he’s unable to act in a way that we would normally think Dean would act. There’s this odd hold that the Darkness has over him and he doesn’t know A) What is it; B) How to deal with it; and C) Whether it’s going to get worse or better.”

Our theory here is that “it’s going to get worse” … mostly because it always does on this show. This can be said even more so when you are still early in a season, and there has not been a whole lot of time just yet for the truth to start to rear its head.
