‘Supergirl’ episode 3 preview: Kara’s interview with Cat Grant turns awkward
Sooner or later, Cat Grant has to figure out that her employee Kara Danvers is really Supergirl. If this was real life, we’d say that the answer would be “yes,” since it’s incredibly unrealistic that she would never put two and two together, but this is the Supergirl/Superman universe where a pair of glasses is enough to hide what someone looks like.
Yet, at the same time “Supergirl” is asking us to buy into a world where a woman is strong enough to lift an airplane and fly around in the air, but is insecure about herself, so we really just have to go with it.
The sneak peek below features Kara giving a lengthy interview with Cat as Supergirl, and she seems to dart around extensively as a way to ensure that her identity is concealed. While she does this, Cat asks her repeatedly about her powers, why she just started to use them, and also differences between her and Superman. At the end of the interview, she does finally make it clear that Superman is actually her cousin. That’ll make for the sort of headline that Cat was hoping to get in the first place.
The one quibble we’ll have with the sneak peek is with Cat’s line of questioning. We know that the show wants to get us to a point here where Kara feels as though Cat is asking sexist questions, but we’re surprised that she jumps from questioning her origin story to talking about starting a family. If the show was trying to convey this sentiment, why didn’t they just have Cat ask about a boyfriend? That’s a little less of a jarring transition and if Cat is supposed to be this all-star reporter that worked her way to the top, we would think that she would be one of the best interviewers on the planet. The Cat character really needs a lot of work, and we hope that they can find a way to even her out a bit.
