‘American Horror Story: Hotel’ episode 5 reaction: Darren Criss on grisly Kathy Bates scene

AHS

Darren Criss may not have had a significant role across all of “American Horror Story: Hotel” this season, but he certainly made the most of the screen time that he had this past episode. His character was a classic L.A. hipster, traveling to the Cortez to get away from what he thought was an uncool Halloween with his significant other. He treated Iris (Kathy Bates) terribly, and after she received some coaching from none other than Liz Taylor, his character met a pretty grim fate.

Losing Criss from the show here was no surprise, given that it was pretty well-known by everyone the moment he was cast that something bad was happening to his character. He seemed to relish every moment that he was there, including the crazy death scene. Here is what he had to say about the experience to E! News:

“It’s kind of fun. You get to do things that you would never do in real life—hopefully! I’m really hoping and praying nobody is going out stabbing anybody. That’s awful, that’s horrible. Don’t do that! But when it’s somebody like Kathy Bates—I don’t have to explain why she’s so amazing—doing this kind of stuff with you, it’s a blast.”

Hopefully, we will get a chance to see Criss in some capacity once more in a season down the road. These shows have enormous casts, and with that we’re just glad that he got a chance to be a part of it this year following his time on “Glee.”
