‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 9, episode 7 preview: Sheldon meets Leonard Nimoy’s son

Big Bang -

There are a few times when “The Big Bang Theory” gets a chance to do something at the intersection of fiction and real life, and one of the latest examples of it can be found in the sneak peek below from Thursday night’s new episode.

Basically, in real life Adam Nimoy has been working on a documentary entitled “For the Love of Spock,” which was successfully funded on Kickstarter and chronicles the impact that his father’s work had on the universe. There was obviously some nice synergy between Adam and the producers for this show, and that makes sense given that Leonard Nimoy did at one point lend his voice to a Spock action figure. He never appeared on-camera, but he was a legendary presence in Sheldon Cooper’s life.

Therefore, it is only fitting that on the show Adam interviews Sheldon, and the way Jim Parsons’ character introduces himself to him is priceless. It’s also nice that Wil Wheaton was available specifically to do this episode, since he is a perfect bridge between Adam and Sheldon thanks to his own contributions to the “Star Trek” world.

Do we expect this particular episode to be funny? Without a doubt, but we also anticipate at the same time that it will be a meaningful tribute to a man whose work still reverberates to many. It is also rather serendipitous timing, given the announcement earlier this week that a new “Star Trek” is heading to CBS All Access. This is something that would excite Sheldon greatly.
