Ratings: ‘Arrow’ season 4 rises with Constantine; ‘Empire’ season 2, ‘Supernatural’ fall (for 11/4/2015)

Constantine -We’re not going to be spending too much time discussing the CMA Awards ratings here, mostly because for regular CarterMatt readers, you probably don’t care that much how it did. Therefore, we’ll give you the totals here quickly (3.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic, 13.6 million viewers) and then move on to other things.

The winners – The most surprising increase was “The Mysteries of Laura” going up to a 1.2, which shows that maybe Debra Messing and company still have a little life … even if the numbers and not so huge. It is the only show on the night to improve by double-digits percentage-wise in the demo versus the week before.

Arrow” did also rise for its much-hyped appearance of Matt Ryan as Constantine, but only to a 1.0. Unless the show adjusts up, we’re not sure that there is enough evidence here that The CW really needs to bring back “Constantine” after NBC canceled it. (Then again, we still think it would perform better than the majority of the other shows on the network.)

The losers – “Supernatural” for the second time in three weeks dropped big, going all the way down to a 0.6. This surprises us, given that “Thin Lizzie” aired after the best episode of the season so far in “Baby.” Are that many members of the #SPNFamily country music fans or something? The majority of network shows did fall last night, with “Empire” going to a 4.6 (still #1 for the night easily) and “Criminal Minds” going to a series-low 1.4. This is something that really surprised us: “Law & Order: SVU” (1.5) actually defeated the CBS crime procedural. That’s not something that happens very often these days. “SVU” held pretty steady versus its last episode two weeks ago, so it at least has that going for it.
