‘The Daily Show with Trevor Noah’ not new tonight, as host undergoes appendectomy
There is a new change when it comes to Comedy Central’s programming schedule tonight, and it has to do with the health of “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah’s” host.
As the statement below via Comedy Central makes it rather clear, Noah underwent an emergency appendectomy earlier today. Thanks to that, he will not be on the air tonight in order to do the show, and “The Daily Show” will be a repeat. There will be some other content coming later this week hopefully, so be on the lookout for that!
It has proven itself to be somewhat of a strange week for “The Daily Show” past and present, thanks in part to former host Jon Stewart starting a new partnership with HBO to produce some short-form content on a regular basis. This means basically that this series has even more competition to contend with. Stephen Colbert is now doing “The Late Show” on CBS, and you have “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” over on HBO, as well. The good news is that none of these shows ultimately air at the same time, but in the world of DVR machines, competition is ultimately competition no matter when it comes on.
While Noah’s ratings have not been necessarily out of the park since taking over the show, we do think that this is much more of a marathon than a sprint. You need to develop some sort of loyal following before you can really make a leap forward, and he’s working on that, plus distancing both himself and the show from what Stewart did. We don’t mean that in a bad way, but he needs to find more of his own voice.
