‘Black Sails’ season 3 premiere date revealed; what this means for ‘Outlander’ season 2, ‘Power’
The first domino has fallen for those of you looking to uncover the premiere-date schedule for Starz in the new year.
Today, the network announced that the third season of “Black Sails” is coming your way on Saturday, January 23. This is one day earlier than season 2, which in turn was one day earlier than season 1. Sense a pattern? Clearly the network likes a little bit of distance between the start of the new year and the beginning of their show; we’re not entirely sure as to the reasoning for that, but it is what it is for now.
So what can we ascertain about this premiere date for some of the network’s other shows? Presuming that the ten episodes of “Black Sails” air sequentially, the day you could expect the fantasy adaptation “Outlander” to return with season 2 is Saturday, April 2. (Next year is a leap year, hence why it would be two days earlier than the season 1B premiere date.) This is assuming that Starz continues to program their biggest hits on Saturdays. Given that they did not take Easter weekend off last year, we don’t expect they will this year. (The holiday falls this time on March 27, the day after what we think will be the “Black Sails” finale date.)
So what about “Power”? This is where things could get tricky. “Outlander” last year only aired eight episodes in the spring, whereas this time we expect them to air all thirteen. It could take them until the end of June to air all of season 2 unless there are two-hour episodes, which means that “Power” may not premiere until July. We’ll have to keep watch on this schedule, since we could see “Power” / “Outlander” airing on the same night or one of them going to Fridays.
