‘Scorpion’ season 2, episode 8 review: Sylvester and Walter at odds over Megan’s health
Last week on “Scorpion” Walter realized that he needs to stop distancing himself from Paige, but how will he do that? Walter isn’t one for opening up and talking about his feelings so we suspect their may be a few awkward moments while he tries to figure out the best way to go about this. Toby also learned that Happy isn’t seeing Chet, that she is in fact throwing herself into comedy to try to get over her hurt feelings concerning Toby. This week however doesn’t focus on any of these storylines. Tonight is all about Megan.
Megan has developed a respiratory infection and it’s not looking good right now even though she tells Walter that it’s under control and that she’s feeling good that the medicine will clear it up. Walter and Sylvester have very different ideas about Megan’s condition: Walter wants anything and everything to be done to keep her alive, but Sylvester wants to make sure that Megan has the best quality of life and doesn’t want her to suffer if she doesn’t have to.
When the treatment doesn’t work, the next option is a really aggressive treatment, something that Walter would want her to undergo, but Megan doesn’t want to. Instead she wants Sylvester to support her decision not to go with the aggressive treatment and even though he tries half heartedly to say that she should try it, we all know that he wants to give her the world, no matter what.
Walter has a plan to try to save Megan’s mind so that when her body fails he can keep her mind “alive” until he can relocate it into another body. Sound like some crazy science fiction? Yeah it did to everyone in the garage too. Really, Walter is having a hard time grasping the fact that Megan is dying and when he learns that Sylvester supported Megan’s wishes not to undergo the aggressive treatment it puts these two friends at odds.
With Megan being so sick, we were a little surprised that the show decided to use Sylvester in the mission this week and didn’t have him spending what could be her last moments on earth being with her and not working on a computer – at least he was in the room with her while he was doing it. We did like seeing some conflict between Sylvester and Walter over Megan’s health and foresee this being a very rich storyline next week. Episode grade: B-
