Was there an ‘X-Files’ spin-off out there featuring Robbie Amell, Lauren Ambrose?

At the moment, we are very much aware of what the interest is for “The X-Files” to come on with new episodes in January. It’s through the roof. This is one of the most-popular franchises really in the history of the science fiction genre, so of course there is going to be some interest out there and seeing what creator Chris Carter decides to do with it.

But is it possible that a spin-off series is also going to be coming in the near future? It’s far from confirmed; as a matter of fact, it may not be happening at all. What is notable here is that it was at least at one point bandied about. This according to a new report from TVLine, who claims that there was at least an idea at one point to have a spin-off from the flagship show featuring Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose’s upcoming characters. The idea did not garner too much traction, and may be dead for the time being.

Even with that being said, should it happen? for the time being, we’d say that the answer to this is “probably not,” given that so much of the appeal for this show is at this point David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. Maybe you could create a show with these characters and call it a different name, but it certainly wouldn’t be “The X-Files.”

Then again, we also feel this way about Kiefer Sutherland and “24,” and there are at least some talks about keeping that franchise going without him.
