Crossover November: Should ‘Teen Wolf’ season 5, ‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 join forces?

Teen wolf -Welcome to a new feature here at CarterMatt! Crossover November is something we are going to be rolling out throughout the month, and our focus with these articles is on one simple thing: Doing everything we can to figure out whether there are some other great crossover opportunities out there. Much of the reason for this coming to fruition stems out of the recent “Bones” – “Sleepy Hollow” crossover, which showed that you can combine two series that, while totally different, can be fun if you put them together.

We’ll start this particular article with “The Vampire Diaries” and “Teen Wolf” by saying this: Logically, the odds of this happening are probably o.00001%. MTV and The CW are different networks, and are only loosely connected in how CBS, who partially owns The CW, is under the same Viacom umbrella as MTV. That may not be enough connective tissue to get a crossover going, but there is some fun possibilities here.

The case for a crossover – Vampire are something that Jeff Davis and the “Teen Wolf” team have for the most part stayed away from, and thanks to that, there is a lot of material that could be explored. Plus, as characters like Scott and Stiles prepare for life after high school, couldn’t they be looking for a mentor or two? Caroline is someone who has gone through high school as a supernatural being, and the same goes for Bonnie or Tyler. They could be mentors or helpers in taking out problems in Beacon Hills … and there are plenty of them.

Also, can you imagine some of the snark that Damon would fire off in the direction of members of the “Teen Wolf” class? Any further chance that we get to see more of Damon’s cynical point of view on things is something that we will fully embrace and then some.

A case against a crossover – The biggest reason to say no is a matter of mythology. Werewolves in the “Teen Wolf” universe are different than the ones on “The Vampire Diaries,” and it may be a little too confusing to try to jumble all of these up. Also, we can certainly see fans of “The Vampire Diaries” making the argument that if there are crossovers, they should be with “The Originals” … and for some reason we’ve seen the show shy against even doing that with its own spin-off. Timing has been labeled as a reason for that.
