‘Supergirl’ episode 2 preview: Jimmy stands up for National City’s new hero
“Supergirl” delivered in its first episode proof-positive that National City does have a new hero, but here’s the issue: You don’t just become perfect at what you do overnight. When you consider the fact that Supergirl / Superman are basically two of the most over-powered superhero characters of all time, you do still have to figure out a way to make sure that they are relatable. For the sake of this show, the way to do that is by showing how Kara doesn’t quite know what to do with all of her powers just yet.
As the sneak peek below (courtesy of CBS) suggests, Supergirl’s actions are getting a little bit of a beating by Cat Grant, who seems ready to coin her #TerribleGirl just as much as she is anything. Luckily, James Olsen is there to stand up for her with a reminder that Superman at one point was not exactly perfect in Metropolis. They’ve both had their fair share of problems, and it is how you bounce back from them that matters.
One of the biggest challenges for Kara on this series, in addition to beating the bad guys, is also handling the media, which are quick to bury something that they don’t like. She needs to convince everyone that not is she fighting for good, but she is to be trusted rather than feared. Even when you are virtuous, the unknown can send many into a panic.
