NBC’s ‘The Voice’ video: Riley Biederer, Regina Love compete for Gwen Stefani
Let’s begin here with Riley Biederer, who is someone who tackles a pretty tough song in “XO.” This is a song that both Beyonce and John Mayer have ties to, and we’ll give her some credit for doing something that sounds really different than what either one of them does. We don’t think that this is a vocally-perfect performance, but she has a really interesting style and tone that makes us curious to see more of what she can do. It’s far too often on this show at this point that every female vocalists sounds more or less the same; it’s nice to have someone more pop-oriented among the women this season, given how country-heavy the show feels right now.
Luckily, we’ve also got someone here in Regina Love who also isn’t country, and can probably tackle soul better than almost anyone left this season. Her “Midnight Train to Georgia” is something fierce, and while we know that there are many singers even on this show who sound somewhat like her, she still stands out and we have a feeling we’ll remember her.
This is going to be a tricky choice for Gwen to make. We think that the odds are higher for Regina to go far in the competition; however, we think that Riley has a better chance at a prominent career after the show. There’s also still a chance for a steal in here…
