‘Doctor Who’ season 9, episode 7 video: Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman on ‘The Zygon Invasion’
The past two episodes of “Doctor Who” season 9 in particular have taken place in the past. We’re talking frequent time-jumps, Vikings, and what happens when a young woman spends so much time being immortal / away from The Doctor that she starts to change.
So where are we heading now into Saturday’s episode? Think something much more contemporary. We’re staying predominantly in the present for “The Zygon Invasion,” but we will be seeing a variety of familiar faces. That means more of the team over at UNIT, and of course the return of the Zygons themselves. Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman each speak on this story in the video below, with Coleman saying that this feels in many ways different than the standard “Doctor Who” episode.
If there is one thing that we have learned structurally about this season so far, it is that you can make no assumptions on the course of the entire two-parter based on the events of this premiere. These shows have went in some truly surprising directions, and we’re rather grateful for it. It adds to the epic scale that we are seeing this season as a whole. We are now more or less at the halfway point itself of the season. We’ve got six more episodes this season and then the Christmas Special, and there are only two things we know for certain about what is to come.
1. Coleman will be departing by the end of the season.
2. Alex Kingston will be stopping by for the special. Huzzah!
