‘Blue Bloods’ season 6, episode 6 review: Is Jamie and Eddie’s partnership in danger?
As per usual on “Blue Bloods,” Friday night’s new episode of the show chose to wear many hats.
First, we had Jamie Reagan front and center for a story about police brutality, and this of course led to a larger story a little bit about whether or not the Reagan family is really respected by the people of New York. If you ask the Reverend (who continued similar protests to what we’ve seen in the past), the answer is “no.” Now that Jamie has been accused and there is already a trail on Danny, it certainly looks to some like the entire system is corrupt and Frank is trying to keep his sons safe.
As a result of all of this, Frank had to be harder towards his son than he would otherwise be, even though he was ultimately declared innocent after they found the right video angle that proved that he was really trying to protect someone in a crowd rather than hurt someone.
While Frank continue to try to deal with the political ramifications of his son’s own actions, Erin was forced to take on a particularly difficult case all about a performer who was accused of murder thanks to lyrics in one of his own songs, which turned out to be an elaborate cover. This in turn was to further cover a secret about his racial background that would cause harm to his perceived reputation. This was a very bizarre way to reference back to the Rachel Dolezal story this summer, but at least the show didn’t go entirely direct with their rip from the headlines.
As a whole, we found “Blue Bloods” this week best when dealing with Jamie’s story, specifically when even it appeared as though he and Eddie were getting split apart thanks to investigators who were out for his blood. It was a test of the sort of loyalty police partners should have, and also how aggressive some can be when hoping to move up to a higher position in the force. Episode Grade: B.
