‘American Idol’ season 15 promo touches on Kelly Clarkson – Carrie Underwood nostalgia

Early next year, the institution known as “American Idol” is going to be back for one final ride, and in the newest promo below from Fox, we get a better idea as to how season 15 is going to be promoted.

Basically, what the network really wants to do throughout this season is remind you how great and important they once were, and while it is easy to mock them for relative irrelevancy right now, we can’t fault them for this particular strategy. After all, this show was once the biggest thing on TV, and while “The Voice” may be outperforming it these days, it has never produced a star on the level of a Kelly Clarkson or a Carrie Underwood. These two gave the show a ton of clout, though you also have other artists like Adam Lambert, Fantasia, and Jennifer Hudson who have all had pretty incredible careers since appearing on the show.

Is it really possible for “American Idol” to find one more star like this? We’re not that confident, since the industry has changed so much. There are so many more outlets now to find talent, with YouTube being one that really was not around as much when the show began. If you are an “American Idol” fan, we feel like the biggest thing that you can hope for from the show’s return is some warm fuzzies and pleasant reminders of what the show once was. If they can give you a few “wow” moments and some humor from the judges, that may be enough.
