‘Shiptober: Should ‘The Walking Dead’ season 6 bring love for Rick, Michonne?

Rick and Michonne -

Mrs. Carter: Is there room for more romance on “The Walking Dead“?

While we understand at the moment that Rick Grimes seems very much invested in something with Jessie, let’s be honest: Is anyone out there really that invested in this particular relationship? It is still too early to have much faith in it in the long-term, and we have also come to learn something about the residents of Alexandria: The majority of them seem to die. Jessie is one of the only ones who seems reasonably competent.

Instead of focusing on these two characters for this article, let’s cast our focus instead on a different prospective couple, one that we now many people have wanted to see on the show: Rick and Michonne. Maybe they are in some ways ships passing in the night ideologically, given that she has adopted a more optimistic tone on the world at a time when he still feels that it is a grim, dangerous landscape.

Yet, the two having differences does not prohibit a romance, right? Below, you can see our take both for and against why this would work as the latest chapter in our ‘Shiptober series.

The case for more Rick / Michonne – The simple answer to this is that there seems to be chemistry there. She not only cares for his safety, but has shown a willingness over the seasons to protect his son Carl. There were moments when they were on their own that they already felt like a family unit. Also, we know that they are in a position now to accept love, and they can be there for each other in a way that few other couples in this world can. He can protect her, and at the same time she can protect him.

Also, given the current status of Glenn as of this writing, could “The Walking Dead” be in the market for a new hot couple?

The case for no Rick / Michonne – As we’ve mentioned already, Jessie is still in the picture, and maybe the two are drifting somewhat now when it comes to their perspective on the show. One other thing to think about here is rather simple: In this world, there are few guarantees. If you cannot even guarantee your own safety, can you really spend that much time focusing on someone else, even someone who can protect yourself? There’s something to be said for being afraid to get into a relationship with someone you consider a friend, mostly in fear of ruining what you have … and making friends is not easy in a world full of zombies.
