ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5, episode 6 review: Did Fitz and Olivia get married?
The story on “Scandal” this season can be described with one simple phrase: Out of this world. We had no idea that the show was going to be heading down the road of a potential Fitz – Olivia wedding story at the start of the season, but yet, here we are.
While at first Olivia was extremely resistant to the idea, the reality is that Cyrus makes a good case. It allows her and the President to avoid her having to go up on the stand, which could save both of them a lot of grief now that more and more facts are coming out about what the two did in order to hide their affair for so long. While there seemed like there would be a wedding, something happened to put the brakes on it at the last second. What was it? Think along the lines of the release of certain files that caused the entire trial to be called off.
As if that wasn’t enough, a still-not-married Olivia managed to get quite the favor from Mellie in making sure that a very powerful man was free. That man? None other than Rowan “Eli” Pope. He’s back, and that cannot be good for anyone. She wants to cash in on making this move for Olivia, and in a big way: She wants to become President of the United States, and we know that she has some of the power to make that happen.
Also, Rowan seems to have already made his first move: Making sure that Jake’s wife is no more, realizing that she was out to try to kill in prison.
Clearly, this show does not know how to relax, and we’re rather glad in some ways that they don’t. We like it when it is at its craziest. Grade: B+.
