ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5 spoilers: Tony Goldwyn on possibility of Fitz – Olivia wedding

Is there really a chance for a “Scandal” wedding in the near future? We understand the reason for the speculation.

If you have not seen the sneak peek over here yet for Thursday’s episode, we recommend that you go check that out since it offers up a little more in the way of insight into what is happening on the show. Here’s the quick summary: Cyrus finds a loophole that will allow Fitz a chance to avoid many complicated hearings featuring Olivia’s testimony. What’s the catch? It goes along the lines of her having to testify to go along with that. That is certainly not something that nobody wants any part of, but we’re also not sure at the same time these two characters are ready or willy to get married at this point in their relationship.

Of course, the odds of getting either Kerry Washington or Tony Goldwyn to talk about this subject extensively are fairly low, but what we will give you is a tease from Golwyn (per The Hollywood Reporter) that makes it very clear that there would be a pretty wide array of things that would need to be done in order for such a ceremony to take place:

“Fitz and Olivia both need to be on the same page about what needs to happen [in order for them to get married] … There are always so many obstacles weighing on each of them in different ways, particularly on Olivia. There’s always something that makes it difficult or impossible for her to live in that space of doing something purely because her heart tells her to do it, so a lot of that crap would have to be cleared out.”
