‘Gotham’ season 2 spoilers: ‘House of Cards’ actor set to take on Mr. Freeze
Many weeks ago, it was first confirmed that “Gotham” was going to be introducing a version of Mr. Freeze on the show. Now, we also know who is going to be playing the part officially.
Nathan Darrow, who appears on “House of Cards” as the bodyguard of Frank Underwood, is going to be playing the recurring role of Victor Fries on a series of upcoming episodes. Executive producer John Stephens tells TVLine that you will first meet Fries on the upcoming November 30 episode, and the character description is as follows:
“Though ferociously smart and eminently capable in his work as one of Gotham’s preeminent cryogenics engineers, Victor struggles to make meaningful connections with others. The one exception is his wife, Nora (casting TBA), who has tragically fallen ill with a terminal disease. Victor’s love for Nora knows no bounds, so as her condition worsens, he goes to extreme measures to figure out a way to freeze her before she dies. This harrowing journey leads to his transformation into the legendary DC villain, Mr. Freeze.”
While we do consistently worry about “Gotham” giving us most of the good stuff too early when it comes to iconic Batman villains, we’re actually glad to see this one introduced. It always felt as though Mr. Freeze was significantly older than Bruce Wayne in the first place, so it does not feel that strange to start to get to know this character right now.
Also, it’s been a while since we have seen a live-action version of this character, and we are more than eager to get the taste of “Batman & Robin” our of our mouth.
