‘Shiptober: Will ‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 6 bring Spencer, Toby together more?

Spencer

Mrs. Carter: Is there hope for Spencer and Toby?

One of the interesting things about “Pretty Little Liars” making its massive jump five years into the future is that it creates such mystery for all of the couples … or one-time couples. While Toby may have been the main man in Spencer’s life while she is in high school, a lot changes over five years. You form new feelings, you visit new places, and you develop new ambitions. Troian Bellisario and Keegan Allen’s characters both want very specific things out of their lives, so it’s possible that they may not have seen each other in years when season 6B starts on January 12. We do know that both remain a part of the show, so you have that to look forward to.

As a part of our ‘Shiptober series, take a look below to see further news regarding whether or not we see Spencer and Toby being together in the long-term … or if they should.

The case for Spencer and Toby – Opposites attract, right? The fact that they are so different is what makes them appealing. Spencer is very driven and very much into the jobs that require her to use her words and create discourse. This is why she will be coming back to Rosewood in season 6B from a place like Washington DC, where she has started to forge a nice career for herself. However, sometimes she misses things right in front of her, and that’s where Toby comes in. He’s very grounded, blue-collar in many ways, and very supportive. They’ve both been through so much together that they seem capable of tackling anything. Also, they are extremely passionate.

We wouldn’t mind if it took a little while for them to get back together in 6B, provided that they are not together. After all, it could take some time to rediscover who they are.

The case for keeping them apart – One thing you have to remember here is the percentage of high-school relationships that actually turn into long-term ones. It’s low. Therefore, we cannot sit here and say with confidence that it will be realistic if Aria / Ezra, Spencer / Toby, and Hanna / Caleb all end this show together. Maybe for Spencer it will help her to find someone else, that way she can create distance from everything that happened to her in the past with “A.” Also, it would be interesting to see what would happen if she was forced to fight for him, and he had moved on to a life that he was happy with that did not include her.

Regardless of which way the show goes, the reality is that the storytelling possibilities are limitless. This is why the producers chose to make such a huge time jump in the first place!
