‘Sherlock’ season 4 special ‘The Abominable Bride’ heading to theaters
We knew that the upcoming “Sherlock” special subtitled “The Abominable Bride” was going to get a theatrical release in China. However, we did not have confirmation until just now that the show is getting the same thing stateside.
It has now been confirmed that on January 5 and 6, “The Abominable Bride” will be hitting a limited number of cinemas for a special release, which will feature a special behind-the-scenes tour and a “making of” featurette starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. This is the definitive experience for longtime “Sherlock” fans, and a chance to see their Victorian era special in a different, exciting format.
This special is going to air both in the United States and the united Kingdom on January 1, which will hopefully satisfy fans until the fourth season proper returns. There are three episodes being filmed this spring, and while there is no firm premiere date right yet, the safe guess is that the show is going to be coming back either in late 2016 or early 2017. “Sherlock” remains one of the biggest franchises in the BBC’s arsenal, and given the fact that its stars continue to be increasing in celebrity, it could be becoming even more prominent over time. We hope that the sporadic nature of the show will allow the stars to remain interested in making it; they can go off and do some other things, and then come back to the show whenever they feel ready to do so.
