‘Shiptober’: Will Penny Dreadful season 3 bring Vanessa and Ethan together?

Vanessa Ives is no stranger to pain and struggle in her life as she has been fighting demon possession throughout most of “Penny Dreadful”, but Ethan Chandler is no stranger to this sort of struggle himself as he has fought his own inner demons with becoming an uncontrollable werewolf. Outside of the obvious issues with demon possession, Vanessa also struggles with the idea that she is worthy of real love and continuously pushes away anyone that could give her that. Ethan has shown her what love can be, but until she accepts the idea that she is worthy of love she is destined to walk the earth alone and we don’t know if he will ever have a real shot with her.

Can these two tortured souls find love and more then that can they find love with one another? That is what we are going to be looking at in this edition of our CarterMatt ‘Shiptober series. There are obvious reasons to want to see these two get together, but there is also a strong argument for keeping them apart.

Vanessa and Ethan together: These two characters are so similar with their internal struggles and have seen each other at their worst. Ethan stood by Vanessa’s side as she tried to fight the demon possessing her body in season one as well as the witches trying to claim her for their master’s wife in season 2. These two are not romantic partners at this point, but these actions go far beyond what most romantic partners would do for each other in real life relationships. On the flip side, Vanessa knows that Ethan is struggling with being a werewolf that savagely murders people and she has been there for him too. While we saw more immediate chemistry between Vanessa and Dorian Grey in season 1, (but to be fair doesn’t he have insane chemistry with just about everyone?) Vanessa and Ethan’s romantic chemistry has been a nice slow burn and is turning them into a couple that we really want to see end up together.

Vanessa and Ethan apart: These two both have some serious personal problems and with that taking over their lives most of the time is there really room for romance? We see the attraction between them (it’s hard not to), but sometimes logic needs to come into play when dealing with problems as serious as these two have going on. Do we really need two evil entities such as a demon and a werewolf becoming romantically tied? This seems like a very bad idea and deep down they both know it.
