‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 17, episode 6 preview: New sneak peek; Mike Dodds’ arrival

Law & Order: SVU logoThere are a few different orders of business that are going to be taken care of on Wednesday night’s new episode of “Law & Order: SVU,” beginning with the case itself. You have a violinist in a touring orchestra who is the victim of a rape, and the sneak peek below kicks off the investigation with Benson leading the charge. She points to a famed fellow musician as the responsible party, which in turn has Carisi and Fin knocking at his door.

Aside from the case, Wednesday night’s episode also stands out thanks to the arrival of Andy Karl, who is coming aboard the show in the role of Sgt. Mike Dodds. He is someone with clear ties on the NYPD already, and he has a lot to prove.

For Karl, another challenge here may just be coming aboard a show with some people who have already spent a decade and a half together. How did he immerse himself in this group? In speaking about his arrival in an interview with Parade, he had the following to say:

“I’m joining this ensemble cast that has all their friendships and off-camera time that’s all established. How they work together on camera is really interesting. So it’s a unique experience to walk into something that works so well and be the monkeywrench, so to speak.

“I was doing some research and I met with the First Precinct in New York. I talked to them to try to figure out if they’d ever been through that situation of being the new guy. They all said, “Come in strong.” It all depends on the type of person you are, whether you’re like someone who comes in and tries to solve every case, or you just want to be part of the system.”
