Netflix reviving ‘Gilmore Girls’ for limited series; Lauren Graham, Alexis Biedel to return

We know that there was enthusiasm for a “Gilmore Girls” revival of some sort, but who actually thought it was going to happen? Chalk this one up as the biggest surprise of the day.

Netflix is set to produce four 90-minute “episodes” of the show, written by creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive producer Daniel Palladino, otherwise known as the people you really want to see behind the scenes of the show. TVLine reports that Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop and Scott Patterson are all set to reprise their roles, and we imagine that it is possible that some other people will join them. We’d love to see Jared Padalecki turn up at least in a cameo appearance; he wasn’t a part of either of the last two seasons, but there are many other people like him that’d be fun to see again.

What we figure this will do is allow the show more of a chance to go out on its own terms, and also further prove that Netflix is the kindest destination out there for beloved TV shows looking for some sort of second life. Look at this, “Arrested Development,” or “Longmire” as examples of shows that are getting a chance to do more great stuff under their own terms.

We imagine that while this is exciting, it’s still a ways away and late next year is probably the earliest we could see it (if that). It’s a major coup that everyone was able to have the time to come back.

For now, let us know what you think about the idea of “Gilmore Girls” coming back in the comments!
