‘Ink Master’ renewed for season 8, months before season 7 premieres on Spike TV
Clearly, Spike TV loves “Ink Master” as a franchise, and they have confidence that it will continue to be a work of art on their schedule for many months to come.
Today, the network confirmed that they have renewed the tattoo competition for an eighth season, which will go into production this March prior to it premiering in the summer. Given that season 7 is set to premiere at some point in the spring, we imagine the air date being more of the late summer / early fall variety for season 8. It will once again be for 16 episodes, and given the recent trajectory we expect another live finale to go along with it.
With this show, one of the questions that you do have to perpetually wonder is whether or not they are starting to give you tattoo-overkill. The idea of them airing two seasons in a year is hardly shocking, given that they’ve done it before. However, 16 episodes is a lot for a reality TV franchise, so getting two batches of that in a year means that over 60% of 2016 will have “Ink Master” in one form or another on the air. Season 7, as announced during the season 6 finale, will feature a roster that is half constructed of All-Stars from previous seasons.
“Ink Master” has already spawned a variety of other shows loosely affiliated with the brand, whether it be “Tattoo Nightmares,” “Ink Shrink,” or the recent “Ink Master: Redemption.” Spike TV has a tattoo empire, and so long as the ratings remain that steady and there are good artists out there, it will probably not go away.
