‘Shiptober: Will ‘Chicago PD’ season 3 bring Lindsay, Halstead closer together?

At the moment, we’d say that the answer to that is a firm “no.” It’s instead more of a character study into what it is like working for one of the most ruthless departments in America, and what it can do to you both physically and emotionally. The journey of these people over time is what we care about, and romance is just one component of that … albeit a popular one. Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) and Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) are two of the most-popular characters from a ‘shipping perspective, so we wanted to enter this daily chapter of our CarterMatt ‘Shiptober series answering one question: Should these characters be an item and stay that way for the whole season?

The case for bringing them together – The simple reason for wanting this is something that can be seen in the photo above. The two care about each other! Not only that, but they care about each other on such a level that they’re willing to put their own lives at risk. Yes, they have been through terrible stuff and each have their own demons (with Lindsay’s being rather prominent), but in some ways, you can see the struggle as proof that they can make each other better. They know who they are, they know their potential, and we’ve already seen the passion between the two of them. Out of the entire Dick Wolf – “Chicago” universe, they are right up there with Casey and Dawson as potentially the most-‘shipped couple and there’s a reason for that.

The case for splitting them up – At the moment, the easiest answer may be that they’re just not ready, and that maybe after everything she has been through with Bunny, the best move for the time being for Lindsay is to focus more on healing herself. After she starts to get on more stable footing, she may be able to have more to give a committed relationship with Jay then. The last thing that she wants is to use him as a crutch, or as a way to avoid some of the real problems that she is going through.

Do we want a Linstead wedding in the future on this show? Definitely, but we’re also aware that this is only the third season. There’s a lot of time for something to develop between these two characters romantically beyond even what we’ve seen, so we don’t think (especially given the events so far this season) that there should be much of a hurry.
