‘The X Factor’ UK review: Bupsi, Ebru, Max Stone, Kerri-Anne Phillips perform for Simon Cowell

X FactorIt only took us a few minutes on Sunday night’s new episode of “The X Factor” to realize one thing about Simon Cowell and his group of Overs: He was not in the best of moods, and really did not seem willing to dish out compliments even to some of the people who he gave a chair to and to be fair we understand the lack of enthusiasm about the category this time. At least last year he got a chance to work with Ben Haenow, Jay James, and Fleur East, which was to us a pretty killer three acts. This time around, there’s no clear frontrunner.

Below, take a look at some of the notable performers who are going to be moving on to the next phase of the competition!

Max Stone – Max’s personality is probably a little too much like a stone, and that is something that is very much hurting him at the moment. He is a very good singer and there’s something there, but he needs to have more fun! Max’s journey in the episode was especially strange. He had the chair, lost it, and then didn’t get it back until the end.

Kerri-Anne Phillips – We really don’t remember her that well going into this phase of the competition, but this was a really great, standout performance from Kerri-Anne! We’re not sure exactly what else she could have done to impress us, so we have to give her credit for bringing her “A” game.

Anton Stephans – Yes, Anton is a little over-the-top, but he’s also hilarious and has the opposite personality to Max. Also, we still think he looks like Terry Crews. One of the best of the season.

Jennifer Phillips – Alongside Anton, Jennifer is probably our favorite from this category. She’s got a killer vocal, but more than that, she’s the sort of fun personality people want to watch perform. We’re not sure that she could become a hit artist, but at this point we’re all about pointing out talent.

Bupsi – We were admittedly a little surprised about this one, mostly because we feel like there are better singers, and Simon may still be riding the high of attention that Bupsi received from her first audition.

Ebru – She is our final addition to the roster this time around and is extremely talented. We’re not sure how memorable she is, but if we were to bring three of these acts to the next round, we’d go with her, Jennifer, and Anton.
