‘Arrow’ season 4 spoilers: Looking ahead at ‘Dark Waters’

Arrow -Did you think that “Arrow” season 4 was about to become a story of sunshine and rainbows? We did hear time and time again how this season was going to have a “lighter tone” than some of what came before it, but now we find out that the upcoming ninth episode this season is entitled “Dark Waters,” and is being co-written by executive producer Wendy Mericle. Any time that an EP writes an episode, you have to be aware that something big is going to be coming up.

At this point, this episode is still so far in the future that it is hard to necessarily speculate too much on what could be taking place. What we can say is this: The ninth episodes are typically the midseason finales. During “Three Ghosts” in season 2 (arguably our favorite episode of “Arrow” to date), we learned that Slade Wilson was ready to come after Oliver Queen in the present. Meanwhile, “The Climb” in season 3 brought us the epic showdown between Oliver and Ra’s al Ghul, which was super-cool when it happened. (Granted, the completely glossing-over of how Oliver survived this remains our least-favorite thing the show has ever done.)

What we’re trying to say here is simple: Expect big things. Oh, and we’re also starting to think that Felicity could have a big role in some of this. Charlotte Ross is going to return as Donna at some point around this point in the season, and we are still feverishly hoping that we’re not being set up for a “reveal” that Damien Darhk is her father.
