‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7: Paul Wesley will direct once again
For all of those wondering, it is starting to appear as though Paul Wesley directing episodes of “The Vampire Diaries” is about to become some sort of annual tradition.
For the third straight year, Wesley is set to helm an episode, and it will be the eleventh of this season per a post on his Instagram page. Given that Paul has a tendency to direct installments in the middle of the season, there must be something here that works out well for him in terms of his production schedule. We know, for example, that with Jensen Ackles, he prefers actually directing “Supernatural” installments a little bit early since it gives him more of an opportunity to prepare before production really begins early in the summer. Granted, “The Vampire Diaries” is much more of an ensemble show, and it may be somewhat easier for him to pick up directing duties while also acting in a variety of scenes.
Given that Paul is returning to do this, we of course wonder if his co-star in Ian Somerhalder will do the same thing. Ian directed his first episode of the show last year, and getting the opportunity to flex a variety of muscles probably help these guys continue to enjoy working on a show. They feel like they are really a part of it both behind the scenes and in-character, which is important if they are going to keep doing it.
There is a new episode of “The Vampire Diaries” airing on The CW Thursday night, but before that we sure to head over here to check out our brand-new (and exclusive interview) with Michael Malarkey!
