Ratings: ‘Empire’ season 2, ‘Arrow’ season 4, ‘Rosewood’ fall; ‘Code Black’ steady
It’s a little early to start proclaiming “how the mighty have fallen” when it comes to “Empire,” but at the moment, it is at least clear that the show is moving from uber-hit to just “hit” status in its second season.
The great news is that Wednesday night’s new episode drew a 4.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which makes it easily the #1 show on network TV. The bad news? This is down four-tenths from the 5.0 rating the show drew last week, though it’s possible that it could rise at least slightly in the final numbers that are coming up later today.
This was not a good day for most primetime shows as a whole: “Arrow” (0.9), “Rosewood” (1.4), and “Supernatural” (0.8) all fell versus their previous episodes. “SVU,” “Chicago PD,” and new entry “Code Black” were at least solid enough to keep their ratings to stay.
Ultimately, we still feel like it’s far too early to tell how some of these shows are going to fare in the long-term this year. We thought that “Rosewood” would for sure get a full season, but with it having less than a third of the show that comes on after it, we’re not so sure anymore. “Code Black” may get a full season if it keeps up this number all season, but that is giving itself one of the smallest margins for error possible.
As for “Empire,” we see it eventually leveling off this season in between 3.5 and 4.0. Like “Grey’s Anatomy,” which was at one point getting insane numbers, we think it will find a settling-off point that is still better than far and away most of TV.
