‘Homeland’ season 5, episode 3 preview: Carrie’s ghosts; Quinn’s plan
Going into the start of “Homeland” season 5, it feels fairly clear that Carrie Mathison thought that she was going to be out of the spy game once and for all. She had a new life in Germany, a new man, and some stability. Given some of the ways that she has suffered over the years, all of these things seemed fairly promising.
Now, we’re looking more at a situation where everything could fall apart on a dime. She is not only thrown back into a case tied to cyber-terrorism, but also forced to look back at some of the work that she has done. Does a certain scene from the promo below remind you a little of “The Drone Queen”? It should, and you have reason to be concerned over just how long Claire Danes’ character is going to be able to handle this much scrutiny and this many opportunities to be haunted by her past.
As for Quinn, you can see the intensity clearly on his face after going through some of what he has.
Moving into the rest of the season, it feels like a fair question for both Carrie and Quinn to wonder whether or not they are too different now from the people they once were to adequately do their jobs. Quinn’s mission in the Middle East has hardened him, changed him. Meanwhile, Carrie has tried to put incredible distance between the person she was and who she is now. Can they revert back just enough to succeed, while still keeping a part of their new selves? Time will tell.
