ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8 spoilers: More scoop on Adam Baldwin’s return!

Anyone who yearns for the days of “Firefly” has to have some love in their heart for anytime the former cast members get back together, and this will be taking place on an upcoming “Castle” episode where Adam Baldwin is returning to reprise his role as Ethan Slaughter.

The first time we saw this character, we realizes quickly that this is not the sort of character that Rick is used to working with on this show in the slightest. While Kate Beckett does have a strong sense for justice and getting the job done, Slaughter is far more interested in bending the rules and doing things his way. It’s going to be a surprise to see him back, but executive producer Alexi Hawley tells Entertainment Weekly that there are some interesting new wrinkles to explore with this particular character:

“Given everything that happened in season 4 between [Slaughter and Castle], obviously Castle’s very hesitant … But we want to do something unexpected with it, to turn the story a little bit on its head, so it’s not going to be just a carbon copy of the episode we had before. We have some really great twists and turns.”

We’re glad to have him back just because this is such a completely different dimension to the show than anything we have with our main characters, and another thing that is interesting here now is that Castle as a private investigator does not have the same obligation to stick with Slaughter. Therefore, we could envision a few scenarios going down where he bails on him after realizing that things are going in a less-than-welcome direction.
