‘Shiptober: ‘Suits’ season 5 and the future for Donna, Harvey
“Suits” is one of the best character studies on TV, largely because this is a show that really puts the effort into making its main cast light, and allowing you to get to know them over the course of time. In turn, this is why we feel like Donna and Harvey are one of the most-popular couples on almost any series. They’ve shown that they care about each other very much, and when it comes to Donna in particular, she has come to show that there is love in her heart for him. Sometimes, you don’t need to say it explicitly for us to know that it’s there.
For Harvey, the matter is clearly more frustrating. We get the sense that he knows he should care for Donna on a greater level and he probably does, but he cannot bring himself to say it precisely. We’ve spent a lot of time during this ‘Shiptober series talking about the will-they-or-won’t-they game, but we’re going to do something a tad different than these two. Since we want to root for them to get together, we want to spend our time discussing more of what is holding them back, and why there is a reason to be hopeful.
The current obstacles – The biggest one is Harvey and the steel wall he has built between himself and his feelings. He’s afraid about caring deeply for someone else and letting them in. If we were to try to read into his therapy sessions with Dr. Agard from earlier this season, our interpretation is that he is almost terrified of loving someone out of fear that when things get tough, he will focus on the job first like he did with his own family. Much of it stems from his mother, and after getting through these mental blocks, he may be ready to move forward.
At the same time, Donna is also going to have to analyze for herself whether or not this is a relationship that she really wants to explore after everything that the two have been through, and at this point, she may have concerns about Louis Litt and what would happen with her job if she were to date Harvey.
Why there’s hope – These two are starting to move more and more in a positive trajectory, even though the show is more than likely going to be focusing on Mike Ross and hi arrest when it returns in the winter with new episodes. Once that is resolved, Harvey may be in a better place emotionally, and the same goes for after Mike and Rachel get married … if they do. We feel like getting one romance on the show to do this level will allow the writers a little more space to work on this one.

I’m so hyped about this two! The chemistry is mind blowing and the relationship has been developed in a way that reminds me of one of Jane Austen’s couples. Harvey and Donna are excellent characters, I hope they’ll get together before the show is over. Exploring their relationship as an established couple would be fun and interesting, they’ve been “married” for 12 years after all!

I do not want to see the two of them together, I never did. If they had the real “thing” between them it would have showed up way before now. Romances tend to be hot with big chemistry, it’s very rare to be friends or boss then lover, that’s just not real to me. They had a past tumble in bed and it didn’t work so they found a way it worked and I wish the show would leave it there.
