‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Kate McKinnon spends (a little) time with Amy Schumer, The Weeknd

SNL -This weekend’s new edition of “Saturday Night Live” is almost upon us, and we could make so many jokes here about The Weeknd performing on the show given their name and their new-age spelling of it.

Yet, we’ll just let the latest promo below do most of the talking for us, since that is what it’s there for: To present reasonably-funny jokes that give you a sense of the awkward tone the show has no problem establishing between the cast members (in this case Kate McKinnon) and the host (Amy Schumer). None of these jokes are going to make you roll on the floor laughing by any means, but they’re worthy of a good chuckle mostly. McKinnon going at Schumer in the most obnoxiously aggressive way possible is fun, and the same can be said for Amy and The Weeknd (getting a rare speaking line for a musical guest in a promo) making excuses for why they cannot hang out with her.

If nothing else, we can say with complete clarity that Saturday’s episode is going to qualify for one of the most current episodes that the show has put on, given that these two were both in some ways the stars of the summer. The Weeknd had some hit music, and Amy just won an Emmy for her Comedy Central series (which was ironically competing against “SNL,” not that the show minds losing one trophy thanks to its legacy over the course of the past four decades).

We’ll have a full review of the episode of course as it is airing. We expect this one to be good, since Amy is probably bringing in some ideas of her own.

If you missed the episode’s other promo focusing mostly on Schumer and her “Trainwreck” co-star Vanessa Bayer, head over to this link right now! Also, you can sign up here to book some other great TV news via email, courtesy of our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: NBC.)
